Pure 100%
Kona Coffee
Hawaii
County Mayor Steve Yamashiro launched
the 100% Kona Coffee seal program aimed at
promoting
pure Kona coffee and raising consumer
awareness. According to the mayor this seal program
guards the integrity of Kona's gourmet
coffee
industry and bolsters
family
farms. In
order to
qualify
to use the logo
seal on
Kona coffee packaging,
the green
coffee must be exclusively grown in north
or south
Kona, roasted
on the
Big Island and
be certified
by the
State Department
of Agriculture
as per Chapter 147, Hawaii Revised Statues..
The applicant then submits a copy of this
certification
to the Kona Coffee Cultural Festival, which
has been contracted to administer and manage
the County's logo seal program. These
adhesive logo seals are sold for 3¢ per
seal to provide for ongoingfunding and
marketing of Kona coffee. The County has
agreed to match this funding on a 2-for-1
basis up to a maximum level of $10,000.
